Pizza chain Papa John’s has served free pizzas for all Camaro owners today. The reason behind this sudden freebies is quite sentimental. It turned out that Papa John’s founder John Schnatter had to sell his gold-and-black 1971 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 for $2,800 in 1983 to keep his now-successful business running.
After all these years, he still misses his Camaro so he created a website to find his missing car and offered $250,000 as a reward. In the end, the much sought Camaro was found and returned to the multi-millionaire and owner of the 3rd largest pizza company in the world.
“When I first saw it I still wanted to look it over to make sure it was the car even though I knew it,” Schnatter told The Associated Press. “That kind of hit me emotionally. I was kind of numb.”
“The Camaro represents what I gave up to start Papa John’s. Words cannot capture the emotions I am feeling…. I never gave up hope that someday I would get that car back,” Schnatter added.
The Camaro will be displayed in Louisville where the company’s headquarters is located.
