The introduction of Brazilian martial arts virtually revolutionized the fighting styles in the recent years. Gone are the days where traditional martial arts like karate, judo, aikido and taekwondo are cool. There are actually 2 dominant fighting techniques that this Latin American country introduced to the world.
Brazilian Jiu Jitsu
The most popular one is known as Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ). This is the core fighting style in most mixed martial arts competition these days and touted as the most dangerous form of martial arts today. As a Jeet Kune Do practitioner and I guess other students of different martial arts will disagree with this idea :).
This is basically the modified version of Judo and Japanese Jujutsu. BJJ dominated the first large modern mixed martial arts competitions, causing the emerging field to adopt many of its practices. The stand-up techniques in Gracie Jiu Jitsu are largely from Japanese Jujutsu (knife defence, gun defence, throws, blocking, striking etc.
